Dorothy Perkins a ‘go to’ destination…

Dorothy Perkins a ‘go to’ destination…

As a result of having an unexpected window of time in George Street Hove, I found myself in good old DP’s. Never one to miss an extra research opportunity, I was able to make the most of a spare thirty minutes. I have been bubbling over with excitement at the prospect of being able to rave to all and sundry about my discoveries, so here goes.

The shift dress is nothing short of a miracle, and is a best friend to most of us. There are a variety of shapes to suit and flatter most body shapes out there, but here in the hallowed ground of this high street matriarch I found some positive jewels in the crown.

After I had recovered from the various untanglements of my many layered garments (its mighty cold out there, I can’t be the only one dressed like Laurence of Arabia), I levered myself into the first dress. The peplum is going to be a huge trend for the new season. For those of you not in the know this is a short overskirt or ruffle attached at the waistline of a jacket, blouse, or dress and DP’s have really gone to town on this particularly attractive feature. The Pointe peplum dress is a beautiful fit, there an array of colour choices and it is priced at £28.00. It fits like a glove and apart from a slight ripple effect caused by the exposed zip on the back of the dress, its spot on. The fabric is extremely comfortable and there is no sign of static despite not being lined. Marks: 9/10

Dress number two had the most amazingly comfortable fit and pings into place, skimming the curves and draping over everything else. I couldn’t believe how well this dress fitted and flattered and could be worn through many of our unpredictable seasons. Its great for a work dress worn with a jacket but could easily translate into weekend wear with knee high boots and a full length cardi, or biker jacket.Whats not to like? Marks: 8/10

My third discovery hit full marks. Right length, skims the curves and is a fantastically sexy fit, yet no unsightly cupping of the old derriere. It’s a good basic shift that could wow in the evening but easily be worn during the day with a tailored jacket. I put a chiffon pussy bow blouse underneath and felt very Miss Moneypenny. It has plenty of ping factor, yes, you will find that I write about that a lot. Frankly, we ladies have to be able to get in and out of the car without the unwelcome sound of a rip or be able to stride out, if necessary, at more than one centimetre at a time. Anyway, moving on, the print is right on trend but at the same time will never date which is always key when ruminating over a purchase. This little number will pay for itself over and over. Marks: 10/10 yay!

An overall critique of this particular branch In Hove comes out at 9/10. The staff were friendly professional and couldn’t do enough for me and at 10am thats quite something. Lindsey who is the Manager and Diane, who is not called top sales assistant for nothing, were wonderful ambassadors for their brand. The changing cubicles had attention bells in all of them and the sole reason I haven’t awarded full marks is because the changing areas were a tad on the tight side, maybe that sounds picky but I speak as I find. That said, a mum with a pram did manage to get down the narrow corridor but hey, they weren’t twins, you know what I’m saying.

Thank you so much for wading you way though all that, I would just love to read what you have to say… so feel free.
