Gok Wan’s Spring range for Tu has landed! Watch out!

There can’t be many who don’t feel drawn to move closer to the gogglebox when Gok is on. Our homegrown banger loving stylist waxes lyrical about women needing to love their naked bods and embrace their lumpy bits.Thousands tune in to marvel at his weekly makeovers and listen intently to his words of wisdom and encouragement.

Sainsbury’s have had their own clothing line TU for some years now, should you detour from the fresh veg, I highly recommend you cast your eye over the rails, you may well find some very wearable pieces. I still have an animal print shirt that I bought at least 4 years ago and I still get comments, nice ones of course!

Gok collaborating with this supermarket giant is not news as he has now launched his third range. I felt compelled to march straight down to Sainsbury’s West Hove, and have a jolly good rummage. There are other pieces in the collection but these are the ones that really stood out.

I love Gok’s take on the peplum. The skirt is a great length, although be warned, there is no striding out for the bus in this baby.Heck no! I heartily suggest you take a leaf out of the AA handbook and leave plenty of time for your journey ;-) There is a short rubber hemmed slip (ooh er missus) which ensures a smooth fit, no lumps bumps or anything else unsightly here! My butt looked surprisingly pert and youthful rather than being squeezed sausage meat fashion down the back of my legs! Bless you for that Gok!

The top has a gorgeous exposed gold zip detail and is easy to put on without assistance. Believe it or not, there are tops on the high street with back fastenings that only to do up with the aid of a lady’s maid or partner. Sorry Bridget, strictly no singletons! Any how, crashing on, shoulder pads help to create the sought after hourglass silhouette and a skinny belt adds a further touch of chic. This ensemble hit all the right buttons for me. Cost £30 each piece. Marks: 10/10 Would love a colour option in this style. Apologies, have checked Gok’s website and it shows this top in a beautiful blue… Mmm. My branch clearly only stocks part of the range. We don’t have the 50′s dress either ;-(

Gok is normally all about colour and doesn’t disappoint with this beautifully colourful print which is stunning. It’s bit full on so, I would not suggest wearing the jacket with the matching skirt. Gok offers a plain jacket for the fainter hearted, so it’s a mix and match situation. There are so many shades that can be co-ordinated with this print, pick out your favourite tones for a totally individual look.

My favourite jacket has shoulder pads to give a soft structure and is very cute actually. The shell top comes in coral, blue and ivory and looks great with jeans or skirts so, it’s a great basic piece. Cost £20. Marks: 9/10

The black cigarette pants are a good cut and would look amazing with platform wedges or high heeled courts al a Miss Hepburn, however they did attract a dusting of cat fur from my rather slothful feline. Merlin seldom strays from the comfort of the underfloor heating in the bathroom but he is prone to launch onto the bed when he eventually overheats. So, watch where you leave your purchases. Can’t say you haven’t been warned. Cost £30 Marks: 8/10 N.B These also come in other colours, check out my blogroll for a fantastic blogger called Schoolgatestyle.

This last piece is a wonderful skirt (despite being unlined) with good weight, and plenty of swing so it moves beautifully. I would also defy it to crease. This flippy affair is a great option for pear shapes or our androgynous sisters as the skinny belt showcases the waist and is so very very feminine. Not to be sniffed at!  Cost £30 Marks: 10/10 , Total Capsule wardrobe £185. What do you think?  I would love to know, I really enjoy all the comments and feedback, keep it coming!

  1. Great post -you look fab in it all! I tried it out for my blog also at the weekend. Loved the t-shirt top ALOT and the dress version of your patterned skirt. Also tried the jersey dress, which was gorgeous on. My only criticism is that it’s all very formal so apart from the t-shirt, there’s nothing non working snot-covered mums to wear! Hopefully next season :)

  2. Lovely to read your comments and thank you for your kind words Avril. Yep, your’e right, snot covered mums need wipe down surfaces. Guess we need to get a sitter and get out of the house in some of this getup. Will check out your blog, keep it coming! x
