River Island’s take on Acid Brights
This essential guide will kick your spring into touch…read on
It’s always the same every Spring. I for one go crazy ape bonkers and end up wanting to buy anything yellow. In the past I have made the most extraordinary purchases when January hits, all because I am craving a serious colour injection. I now understand why one year, I ended up with a citrus yellow top with no clue whatsoever what it would go with. Funnily enough that was River Island too, but lacking the courage I now have, I dyed it and loved it until it fell apart.
We all need to keep warm, yet not overheat when the sun shines. Footwear is an issue, boots and socks seem too heavy going but bare tootsies aren’t yet an option. Here are my top tips to help you circumnavigate this tricky old time of year, because like it or love it…..Spring is here!
At the very end of January check your wardrobe for these essentials. You need paler coloured tops that layer, starting with vests, long sleeved tops and knits. Shoes/boots need to be lighter in colour than the usual black or dark brown. Tan/Nude is a great basic to consider for footwear and accessories and will take you right through most seasons. One solution for those who yearn for a change from heels, is a great pair of brogues or jazz shoes. Clarks have a wonderful range, so hit the website link and take a look, you will be spoiled for choice. Inevitably there will be days when you will want to banish woollen socks when feet implode as you go about your day to day business. As for the ‘no sock’ situation, nude ankle high socks or shoe liners will add an extra element of comfort. A little bare ankle is much more bearable (and quite flattering actually) than mottled feet. Take the plunge and make these simple changes and I promise you tranquility, calm and more importantly happy feet. Finally, consider soft leather or suede bags to lend balance to your look and of course some great jewellery.
And so to River Island who have a wonderful array of Acid Brights to offer this season, just don’t get me started on the footwear. As the weather progresses and it’s time to reveal the first season’s pedicure, River Island’s shoe range include some really funky sandals that will add serious edge to your look.
I pounced on these items as they reflect the trend for brights and are totally wearable. I have given the more timid reader a soft alternative. Frankly I totally fell in love with the nude combo!
Ok, these little beauties are not leather hence, not full marks, but oh, would you just look at them, they are a mere £45 and are very comfortable. Really! Marks: 9/10

These jeans are unreal. They are a mid rise cut, eradicating muffin top in one fowl swoop. They are cleverly styled with angled zips that totally flatter. The S…T…R….E…T….C…H is so fabulous they feel like a second skin and the ping factor is OFF the scale! Wear brogues or jazz shoes for the chillier days and then break out the open toed bad boys for the scorchers. The main deal with this look is keep everything around the “Bright” reasonably calm and have fun with it. Take your pick to suit your colouring and lifestyle. Do you want wall to wall Acid Bright? Maybe you would prefer opting for a pastel element. This adds a really feminine twist and changes the whole mood. That said, I threw my black bikeresque jacket on over the pink top ratcheting the toughened look up by several notches and fell in love all over again! Before those ladies (ahem) of a certain age dismiss this as purely for the younger set, don’t rule it out, give it a try, even if it’s just a mad bag!
Knit £38 Top £25 Pink lace top £25. Jeans £40. Sorry gang, the white vest and the cross are my own, but cute n’est pas? Marks: 10/10 for the lot! Let me know what you think!
