Topshop, and Stylescout’s Top Tips for Layering
Layering can be a bulky old business, here’s how to get it right.
It’s been the wettest summer since records began in 1911 but on the upside, it’s been way easier to maintain a sense of style. I have lived and died in my River Island neon lime jeans and sandals and even though style rules dictate no more purchases until autumn…. I couldn’t resist Topshop’s vest tunics. Layered over leggings/ jeans, they bring an edge to jeans and a vest and for the ahem, younger set, a really great grungy mini dress is optional. It’s vital to get base items right so everything skims rather than adding bulk. Here are my top tips for un-rippled success.
First up Topshop Skinny7/8ths jeans. These have a high rise which acts like the old fashioned 48 hour girdle. Lumps and bumps are cunningly concealed and voila, a smooth silhouette and a jolly good base from which to start. I went for yellow, ensuring that they blend with everything. They are reduced to £15 and are a key basic item. They are sooooo comfortable and the fit is spot on.
To achieve a laid back vibe here are the items I recommend to pull this off. The vest tunics sat better on a silky tank rather than on a cotton one. This is also a fab outfit on it’s own….Listen up holiday makers, capsule wardrobe alert.
I know I may look like a film extra fresh from the Crusades but, these vest tunics £22 each and so cool with dropped hem, Love them!!. Pop the vest over, (watch out for flies belt hoops and textured jeans pockets). I tucked in the tank to prevent more lines showing through as the vests are ever so slightly sheer. Garnish with pendants (I favour a crucifix or two) a cuff and a straw trilby. Gladiator sandals/ brothel creepers for day/ heels for evening and you are done done done! 10/10
£59 total spend. What is your favourite look so far this summer?
